Circadian Contraptions Day 66

I wanted to do something with surrealism or abstraction. Now the realism bit in this picture is not very well defined. nor was it intended to, it’s there to give the idea of a “real” world vs the more abstract area and line based image on the right. The lines to the right become stronger, more defined while the shapes themselves are lost.

Circadian Contraptions Day 65

I’ve set out to make a caricature today. I read up on it a bit and its mostly about exaggerating known features. So after looking in the mirror for a bit, I’ve written down a few things. The glasses stand out a lot, I have a high forehead, and somewhat thin but wide lips. All those features can be recognized in the resulting drawing, but it looks more like a comic character than a caricature of myself. The hair and glasses i think are recognizable, but that’s about it.

Circadian Contraptions Day 64

Todays contraption is a bit of a collage of a bunch of stuff i did before. I wanted to see what else i could do with the Pixel logo, and this is what came out of it:

I’m learning to play a bit with the smart objects and the way you can use filters on a mask. So today’s contraptions is my name written in flames, and some filters added using the smartobjects option.

Circadian Contraptions Day 62

Today I wanted to do something a little more abstract. I started out with a mandelbrot fractel, and by accident copied it into the same work folder that the lips were in. Interested in how these two would mesh together I started messing with pixelation, coloroverlap and repetition. The end result I think is very reminiscent of the Pop art style.

I really love how the lips turned out so figured I’d do the same with the eye. I love the effect i managed to get on it, but the iris colors.. not 100% sold on those. Still, it’s today’s contraption.

Circadian Contraptions Day 60

The second month ends with a big kiss. Today was something of a study in the lighting on the lips, and how to convert a pencil drawing into color.

Circadian Contraptions Day 59

The face i showed before is not complete yet. It needs a frame, it needs a setting. And of course hair. So that is what I did today. I made a nice pixie cut hairstyle and a face shape that should house the rest. It might start looking a bit odd when i combine them, for the face in relation to the other things i’ve drawn is a lot smaller. But we’ll see how it turns out. For now, have some hair.

Circadian Contraptions Day 57

On the way to work today I decided to test my new phone by making a picture of sky lighting up behind the pyramid that is our train station. The effect was so nice that I decided to strengthen it by adding a blur and messing with the strength of the color balance on the outskirts of the picture. Finally I added a border to set off the darkness.

The mouth. After doing the eyes, the ears and the nose, the mouth of course couldn’t stay behind. I think its interesting how many lines the mouth does not actually have. The outer contour is more hinted at than drawn, except for the shadowy corners and bottom part.

And a bit of bonus content
As I had most of a face ready, I thought to combine the bits I had and make a “semi face”. Yes, it lacks a lot, like the little ridges between the nose and mouth, but its still the best face I’ve ever drawn. Even if it wasn’t in one bit.
